Jo was born in England and grew up in New Zealand where she completed a BA in Art History and English Literature. She moved to Melbourne and in 2012 completed an Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology - Jewellery, at NMIT.
Jo is inspired by sculpture/sculptural forms, architecture/architectural details, by jewellery itself, by the materials and the monumentality of simple forms—regardless of scale.
Her work is about the integration of shape, form, line and surface—the contours, proportions, interior versus exterior spaces, the play of light on metal and the difference a surface treatment can make to the feel of a piece.
It is about simplicity and subtlety—about allowing shapes and forms to speak for themselves without needing additional decoration and detail.
