Phillipa started her studies at RMIT in Melbourne completing a BA in Fine Art, majoring in Contemporary Jewellery. She was awarded an Arts Grant to help fund her studies. More recently Phillipa completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Art at Whitireia NZ.
Phillipa works in a variety of materials, and is inspired by nature and man-made patterns: “River stones, a tangled pile of audio tape, and a wrought iron gate have all given me ideas for jewellery.
“I am interested in questioning the value we place on different materials; of extending the possibilities of jewellery and what can be worn on the body; and celebrating the process of working directly with materials using both ancient and current techniques.”She bought QUOIL Gallery in Wellington in 2007, and enjoys promoting contemporary jewellers and their work.
